Job Description:
BASIC FUNCTION:
Responsibility for managing the Company's Business on a project assigned
basis, within the framework of Company Policy and Procedures, to achieve
project goals and satisfied Clients.
This position provides overall management of the assigned project to ensure the Client receives a facility designed, engineered and constructed within the scope of the contract, to meet his needs, on time, within budget and with Health and Safety being high profile.
This position also requires a sales attitude and support to the Managers of
Business Development as necessary.
GENERAL DUTIES AND SCOPE:
The Project Manager shall be the liaison between the Client and Company and, where required, arrange for the necessary services through their line
Director. He is responsible for managing the efforts of all departments
towards meeting the needs of the project.
The Project Manager shall handle all contract matters after the contract is
signed as directed by his line Director. This includes processing of change
orders, preparing and reviewing Job Condition Statements, resolving issues
with clients and sub-contractors.
The Project Manager shall plan an efficient hand over, completion of defects
and management of the defects period in liaison with the Austin staff and the Client.
The Project Manager shall be required to have a thorough knowledge of Procedures and documentation and shall ensure these are applied
throughout the project.
The knowledge required to perform this function includes an intimate
awareness of Operations. The Project Manager needs an
understanding of engineering disciplines and should be conversant with
construction materials and equipment terminology. He should be well versed in contract documents, accounting procedures, progress payments, and invoicing and change orders.
QUALIFICATIONS
A minimum of 5 years experience. This should ideally be preceded by a
minimum of 5 years spent working in an Engineering or Construction
environment.
Specific skills and attributes required are; organisational skills, interpersonal
skills, decision making ability, initiative, independence, perseverance,
objectivity, hands on and checking skills.
The appointee should preferably be a degree qualified with project
management experience, ideally with or aiming for Chartered status.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Provide sales support for assigned projects and ensure continuous
selling takes place with existing Clients.
2. Arrange and have approved by Management contractual releases.
3. Control adherence to the project scope, budget and programme to
ensure completion on time and within budget and providing profit.
4. Collect and distribute accurate and detailed information to ensure
completed design, engineering and construction services.
5. Co-ordinate all functions of all departments to ensure timely completion
of the project.
6. Arrange and prepare minutes of meetings with clients, internal designers,
co-ordination meetings, sub-contractors and meetings with other external
participants as necessary and document all requirements and actions.
7. Report status of projects to Client and Austin Management so that each
has accurate current information for planning and action.
8. Process Field Orders, Change Orders and assist in the preparation of
JCS’s updated project costs.
9. Submit drawings to necessary authorities for approvals.
10. Co-ordinate with vendors and sub-contractors to clarify drawing intent,
scope changes, invoice and payment matters.
11. Compare cost of materials and sub-contracts against the cost estimate
to determine if project is meeting budget.
12. Ensure that C.D.M. regulations and all Health & Safety issues are
properly addressed by all participants.
13. Prepare contract plan for design and procurement strategy and monitor
both activities.
14. Assist in the procurement and selection of the work package contractors
where appropriate. Arrange post tender review meetings with the preferred
work package contractors, designers and other necessary professions,
ensuring that the meetings are recorded accurately. Following through to
ensure that the packages procured comply with the technical documents,
programme and quality requirements.
15. Prepare tender reports with recommendations for the client in liaison
with the project team to the client for appointment of work package
contractors.
16. Assist the client on employing best practices and support the client and
the client’s representatives in all aspect of the project.
17. Provide the site team with the best support during construction on site
helping with ensuring that specification and drawing requirements are
implemented to the stated standards.
18. Manage the project in line with Austin Company’s Quality Manual using
all relevant contract and cost management procedures.
19. Any other duties deemed necessary or directed by the Company’s
management.
